Zel Gün

On the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution our newspaper did an exclusive interview with the Honourable Marcos Hernandez Sosa, the Consul of Cuba.
Zel- At the celebration of the anniversary of Cuban Revolution in Toronto Mr. Cardoso indicated that Cuban Revolution continues. Would you like to have further comments to his statement?

Marcos- Many people thought that when Fidel got sick the Cuban revolution will end. The Cuban revolution is more than one man, despite the fact that Commander of the revolution is only one, and that one is Fidel. The revolution is a whole people who have fallowed their historical leader, Fidel, in a fight against imperialism, against oppression. The Cuban Revolution is ideals that does not die with a person, and remains in the next generations. The Cuban revolution is a people who are building a different society, a society of equality, solidarity, dignity, social justice and internationalism with other peoples.

Even after the disappearance of the Soviet Union and the Socialist Camp a lot commentaries said that the Cuban Revolution will not survive and more or less 18 years have passed and we are and we will continue existing.
Life in Cuba remained the same after Fidel’s illness. Raul, Vice president of the Council of State, ruled the country as established on the Constitution, and the National Assembly, after the election in 2008, named him President of the Council of State.
None of a single program of the revolution was stopped. The people remained united to their leaders and to the communist party, and despite our enemies our country goes forward in the construction of the socialism.

Zel - Since many socialist countries are collapsed it is speculated that socialism era is over. What would be your comment?
Marcos - In the world there are still socialist countries: China, Viet Nam, North Korea, and Cuba.
Due to the imperialist propaganda, it is said that socialism era is over, when actually socialism is the option for our world.
Capitalism only has brought to the world wars for the natural resources and exploitation to the human race. Socialism is a different way of seeing the relations among the countries and the people, based on the mutual respect, justice, cooperation and equality.
Socialism has not died. It is the option for a system, the capitalism that has proven to fail in all aspects.

Zel - Many countries in Latin America have switched to the left recently particularly I must note Mr. Chavez’s brave efforts. Can we talk about a new Bolivarian revolutionary spirit?
Marcos - Yes. As you say in many Latin American countries we have seen how on the elections the people of those countries have supported governments with a left proposal. It is mainly because in Latin America have failed all the experiments that neo liberalism can do and the people is tired of poverty and exploitation.
In Chavez and its Bolivarian revolution has reborn the spirit of Bolivar and its great Colombia. He is proposing a new program to Latin America, a program that includes Literacy campaigns, Health campaigns, develop of our countries based in cooperation and use of the natural resources that our region is rich. Is the use of our wealthy in benefit of our people?
Chavez is proposing the ALBA, which in Spanish means the sun rise for the Americas instead of ALCA the free trade treaties proposed by the U.S. Chavez is proposing the socialism of the 21st. century, the only way to make the Latin American countries free.
Latin America is living one of its greatest moments of its history. Venezuela, with Chavez, Bolivia with Evo, Ecuador, with Correa, Brazil with Lula, Uruguay with Tabare Vazquez, Nicaragua with Daniel Ortega and now Paraguay with Fernando Lugo, all along with their people are writing the reliberation of the Latin-American people.

Zel - Since Cuban Revolution the United States tried to isolate your country and prove that the system in Cuba is not working. However, your country has survived over the years. What would you tell us about your successes and weaknesses?
Marcos - We have defeated all the attempts of the imperialism to destroy and isolate the Cuban revolution. Examples of it are: The victories of our country at the United Nations were the blockade imposed by the U.S. has been condemned by the International community, the defeat of the terrorist campaigns carried out from Miami, and the accusations on the human right issue against us. Everything has been possible because our people have supported the revolution and those campaigns have been based on lies.
As successes we can show a great advance on the fields of Education, Social Security, Health, Sport, only compared to the countries of the so-called first world.
Weaknesses. If our people is the one who has achieved those successes, our people is also the one who can destroy the revolution. We have proven we can resist all the attempts to destroy the revolution from abroad, but  that fight have left scars within the country who’s mainly representation is corruption, but fortunately these is a minority and our people is facing up the problem and as in many other occasions will end victorious.
Delal - There is ongoing campaign about the Cuban Five. Are you hopeful that they will gain their freedom in the near future?

Marcos - This September is going to be the 10th. Anniversary of their imprisonment. They are suffering that cruel punishment for the only reason of infiltrating the terrorist groups based in Miami that plot terrorist plans against our country, all this with the support of the U.S. government.
During their trial it was proved that they collected only Public Information and the US Security never was in danger.
This case is another example of the immorality of the U.S. Administration. On the same streets of the city where the 5 were judged, Posada Carrilles and Orlando Bosh, both well known terrorists, both accused of planning the bombing of a Cuban airline plane in Barbados, walk free.
Besides the inhuman treatment given to their relatives in allowing regular visits to them and even two of their wives never got a Visa to visit their husbands. That was condemned at Geneva by International Organizations. We can show which the US Administration Human Rights policy is.
This case also has gathered a great international support. There are committees for the freedom of the five in almost all countries of the world. In this 10th. Anniversary, these committees are organizing a huge number of activities to let people know about the Cuban five and what they represent.
You never loose hopes and I am confident that they will be free sooner than later, but we have to take action, we can not just wait, we have to make the truth be afloat, so we can see them walk free again.

Zel - What would be your evaluation when it comes to the Cuban-Canadian relations?
Marcos - We have maintained good relations with Canada. Canada was one of the countries that when at the beginnings of the revolution everybody broke relations with Cuba, Canada never did so, despite the pressures from the U.S. to do it.
Nowadays Canada is one of our main commercial partner reaching and amount of a billion dollars per year; also we have cooperation in many other fields and more than 600 000 Canadians travel to Cuba every year as a tourists.

Zel- European Union froze relations with your country in 2003 and re-established recently. What would be the motive behind their action?
Marcos - Behind that action was the Human Right Issue. Aznar, formal President of Spain at that time and associated with the U.S. government and the terrorist groups of Miami, put pressure in the European Union to freeze the relations with our country. One of the actions was star inviting the so-called dissidents to the National Days celebration at the Embassies of the European countries in Havana. Dissidents that only are a well-paid contra revolution created by the Interest Section of the U.S. in Havana, based only in the money they received from their masters.
In recent days the European Union realized that we will never accept a dialog based on press ion, and they changed they posture, that by the way only respond to the interest of the U.S.
We are willing to talk to anybody in a dialogue based in mutual respect, never in pressions based in lies created by a country that only looks for our destruction. Already 10 US Administration had follow that policy without any success.

Zel- I do not know if you are following the Turkish politics. Turkey has been struggling to overcome the Kurdish problem but failed. Would you have nay comments on this issue?
Marcos - I am not entitled to give any opinion on that issue besides that is an internal Turkish question and since it will be considered (as it is and we never do it) an interference on the internal affairs of a country with which we have normal and friendly relations.

Zel - Two days ago you celebrated Fidel’s birthday. After Fidel stepped down there were many rumours that Cuba came to the end of the road. What would be your comments?
Marcos - As I said before, everything in Cuba is normal. Our country continues its path lead now by Raul, elected by the National Assembly as President of the Council of State, with the Communist Party as only substitute of Fidel and his ideals, which is consulted in every main issue due to his experience achieved in all this year of fight against imperialism.
Fidel keeps fighting, now with a pen sharper than a sword instead of a gun on his hands.
Our people continue working in the construction of the socialism.
Cuba is proven to the world that the revolution is sustainable and will remain because of what it represents, because of what it has done for its people and for all the people of the world, for its internationalism, for its justice, more than for one person, despite the fact that person was the person who made the dream possible, the dream of making a socialist revolution only 90 miles from the shores of the U.S. and that’s why that person will remain being the Commander in Chief of the Cuban Revolution.  As Jose Marti our National Hero said “Ideas trenches are stronger than stone trenches”

Zel- Would you like to convey any message to the Turkish-Kurdish community through our newspaper?
Fist of all I would like to express my gratitude for allowing me letting know my country through this newspaper. The message I would like to transmit is a message of Solidarity, respect, friendship and prosperity to the Turkish-Kurdish community as a whole and their people were ever they are. We must keep united in the fighting together in favour of peace, social justice, to finish with illiteracy, poverty, lack of health services and shelter provoke by the imperialism, the main enemy of all human kind and the Planet itself.
